Moms talk and share on Facebook. Activity on your page shows up in your fans news feeds and spreads quickly if it’s compelling. So how do you as an SME make your Facebook presence noteworthy to this important demographic? Here are a few ways:

  1. Update your status line regularly: Use this valuable piece of online real estate to make announcements, share new discoveries, ask opinions or start a conversation. Make sure it’s useful to your fans.
  2. Send new visitors to a Welcome Page: It’s easy to customize your Facebook page by adding a Welcome Page. This way new visitors aren’t dropped onto your wall, which is basically an out-of-context conversation that may simply confuse them. Include a short amount of key information about your business, a graphic or a photo and a reminder to “like” your page.
  3. Respond to comments: Facebook is about being social so show your fans that you are a real person who cares. Always reply to comments on your wall. It’s easy, and your networked moms will appreciate it and let others know.
  4. Upload photos and video: Upload photos and videos of events, products and fans themselves. The most recent tagged photos will appear in your top photo banner. Videos posted to youtube can be set to automatically upload to your Facebook page.
  5. Auto-post your blog: Network your blog or use a widget to automatically upload your blog to your Facebook page.
  6. Host a contest or sweepstakes: Contests are great ways to drive fans and new fans to your page and product or service. Make sure you follow the approved Facebook guidelines.
  7. Include press coverage: Upload scans of links to recent press coverage.
  8. Reward the loyal: Offer your fans free shipping, product coupons, discounts or weekly specials.
  9. Spread the love: Repost or share relevant, interesting information from your fans or other Facebook users. Facebook is about give and take. The more you help others, they more they will help you.
  10. Don’t over-post: We are all inundated by updates and promotion so keep your posts relevant, useful and timely. Post too often or spend too much time broadcasting your message and you risk getting “unliked” or worse, hidden.
